Negative Impacts

Although STEM solutions usually have a positive impact, they may also have negative impacts. It's important to consider any negative impacts and whether there are ways they can be reduced or overcome.

Situation: Sometimes people become very tired because they're low on iron. If a doctor diagnoses this they may prescribe iron tablets for the person to take for a few months to restore the iron levels in the body.

Negative impact: Iron tablets sometimes upset people's stomachs, particularly at first.

Ways to reduce/overcome this: The doctor may recommend taking the iron tablets after a meal, which makes it much less likely they'll cause a problem.

Situation:Many people would be lost without their mobile phone. It allows them to stay in touch with friends and family, browse the internet and watch videos. But looking at things on their phone can eat up too much of people's spare time and result in them getting less sleep than they need

.

Negative impact: set up some rules like switching your phone off at a certain time, muting notifications or using apps that only let you access things like social media for a set amount of time a day.

Ways to reduce/overcome this: People can still have the benefits of the mobile phone but make sure their mental and physical health aren't impacted.
