Nature Spotting with SEEK and iNaturalist

The Seek app lets you use your phone's camera to identify plants, animals, insects and birds using its AI nature-recognition program. While Seek is great for beginner naturalists, linking it to the iNaturalist app allows you to have the automatic ID checked by nature-lovers from across the world.

This not only improves the app's ability to identify things, but allows your observation to be rated as "research grade" and added to a collection of data used by scientists studying topics like biodiversity, invasive species, and climate change.

If you feel confident about recognising familiar species you can also help the iNaturalist user community check the automatic identification on submissions to iNaturalist.

How to link Seek to your iNaturalist account

If you like you can choose to post any of the observations you make with Seek to iNaturalist, so that they can be verified by other app users and then used by scientists in their research. Here are some instructions on how to do this.
